Offshore Topside Process Engineer

Description:A Facility engineer performs process and/or mechanical design of oil and gas production facilities, including new installations as well as upgrades and retrofits to existing terminals, platform, sub sea tie backs and pipelines.

Projects that the facilities engineer could be involved in include:

Conceptual engineering for new field or plant developments

Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) and Detailed Engineering for equipment additions such as production separators, oil treaters, storage tanks, pumps and gas compressors on new and existing platforms, Subsea tie backs in deep water

Assist to the design of related process and utility systems

Assist to the piping system design

Assist to Process philosophy


(Assignments will vary depending on the nature of projects received from Senior engineers and candidate's applicable work experience, expertise and proficiency.)

Assist and Perform process simulation

Assist and Perform sizing calculations for process equipment using company developed tools

Assist and Perform lines sizing using company developed tools

Assist and Perform sizing of utility systems using company developed tools

Assist and Perform hydraulic studies

Assist and Perform troubleshooting and/or de-bottlenecking of existing facilities to optimize production

Perform engineering studies

Perform the necessary field work to obtain accurate information for the design.

Assist Project Managers and design team with assembling the documents for completing the design project effort.

Research, learn and implement differing design techniques which may be industry specific.

Assist and Develop process flow diagrams

Assist and Develop safety flow diagram

Assist and Develop of Safe Charts

Assist and Develop P&IDs or mechanical flow sheets

Develop and review equipment arrangements

Develop engineering reports and associated spreadsheets

Develop or alter standard project specifications to meet specific project requirements.

Develop regulatory submittals for facilities and pipelines

Prepare processing equipment specifications, data sheets and bid drawings

Prepare package data sheets for various facility systems

Prepare equipment and manual valve list

Prepare specialty items list and specification

Coordinate with piping designers and monitors project status and attend project meetings

Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure an integrated design that meets the project requirements

Coordinate and direct drafters in the creation of drawings.

Check drawings and other documents. Verify correctness of design and engineering data to verify completeness of the documents.

Coordinate procurement activities

Review and approve vendor quotations, drawings, and related submittals

Maintain project files and project calculation files

Provide construction and startup assistance.


Must have a BS degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, or Petroleum Engineering

Requires 1+ years' experience in engineering design and/or project management of offshore oil and gas facilities.

Requires knowledge of codes and standards associated with oil and gas production facilities and equipment installations (e.g. API, NFPA, ASME)

Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship

Working towards PE registration is preferred.

Familiar with all engineering and design requirements for projects, including client provided specifications and all applicable codes and standards.

Experience in offshore facilities and/or gas plant design is preferred.

Ability to interact with staff at all levels.

Ability to travel to client sites.

Experience to work with drafting or other engineering support staff.

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Experience in multiple industries is a plus.

Availability and ability to work overtime as needed based on project.

Strong written and verbal communications skills.
